Indonesian Government Issues Presidential Regulation Number 82/2024 on Presidential Communication Office
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has issued Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2024 on Office of Presidential Communication. Presidential Communication Office is established in order to ensure effectiveness in organizing communication and strategic information for the President in a synergetic and integrated manner.
“Office of Presidential Communication is a nonstructural institution formed by the President to organize communication and strategic policies information, as well as President’s priority programs,” the Presidential Regulation mentioned. The Regulation is accessible at Cabinet Secretariat’s Legal Documentation and Information Network (JDIH).
Presidential Communication Office has a task to provide supports for the President in organizing communication and strategic policies information as well as President’s priority programs.
In performing the task, Presidential Communication Office carries out the following functions:
- carrying out analysis on actual, strategic, and political issues and information for President’s priority programs;
- carrying out organization of communication materials and strategies of actual, strategic, and political issues and information for President’s strategic policies and priority programs;
- carrying out information and communication media dissemination for President’s strategic policies and priority programs; and
- carrying out coordination and synchronization of strategic information and communication evaluation between ministries/institutions for President’s strategic policies and priority programs.
Presidential Communication Office is under and responsible to the President. The organization’s structure consists of Head of the Presidential Communication Office, Deputy Head of the Presidential Communication Office for Communication and Information Materials, Deputy Head of the Presidential Communication Office for Dissemination and Information Media, Deputy Head of the Presidential Communication Office for Information Coordination and Communication Evaluation, and Presidential Spokesperson.
The article 48 of the Regulation mentioned that by the time the Presidential Regulation comes into effect, the functions carried out by the President’s Staff Office in organizing communication strategies in presidential institutions and organizing political communication strategies and information dissemination, as regulated in Presidential Regulation Number 83 of 2019 on President’s Staff Office, are handed over to Presidential Communication Office.
“As of the date of the issuance of the Presidential Regulation, all laws and regulations that regulate the implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 83 of 2019 on President’s Staff Office (State Gazette of the Republic of Indonesia of 2019 Number 244), which related to the provision on functions of organizing communication strategies in presidential institutions and organizing political communication strategies and information dissemination, remain in force as long as it does not violate the provision in this Presidential Regulation,” the Article 51 mentioned.
The Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2024 comes into effect since it is promulgated on August 15, 2024. (UN)(AW/LW)
