Gov’t Speeds up Recovery of Flood-affected Infrastructure in Solok

The Government continues to accelerate rehabilitation of public infrastructure and facility affected by flash flood that hits Solok regency, West Sumatra province. The efforts were made to recover access for people’s mobility, public services, and post-disaster essential services.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo stated that the post-disaster mitigation efforts have been made in integrated manner including by clearing debris in river flow and estuary to ensure clear flow of water and reduce the risk of subsequent flooding.

As of Friday (09/25), Ministry of Public Works has assessed 14 government-owned buildings in Arosuka business area, cleared debris in various public facilities and river flow, as well as recovered clear water network and road access.

The assessment to 14 government buildings, including the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) building, the inspectorate office, several government agency offices, laboratories, and other government facilities, has provided the basis for determining the appropriate response according to the extent of the damage, which is ranging from cleaning and rehabilitation to reconstruction.

In addition to government buildings, the Ministry is also cleaning up several public facilities, including places of worship and community health centers (Puskesmas), while accelerating repairs to the clean water network affected by the disaster. These efforts are aimed at restoring basic needs and public services.

The Ministry has also cleared flood debris from the National Road Jalan Nasional Batas Kota Solok–Lubuk Selasih connecting Solok city and Lubuk Selasih to ensure that public access and the distribution of aid can safely resume.

Previously, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming on Friday (09/25), inspected a number of public infrastructure and facilities affected by the flood. On that occasion, he emphasized the importance of swift recovery of main access and infrastructures to maintain people’s mobility and safety.

“Our priority is to recover the main access. We are ensuring that routes used by the public are safe, so they can resume their daily mobility, we can continue distributing aid and restore the government services. The safety of the public must remain our top priority,” the Vice President said.

The Government ensures that post-disaster recovery efforts in Solok regency continue to be made, by prioritizing public safety and the restoration of essential services. Recovery efforts are also being coordinated to ensure that infrastructure and public facilities can gradually return to full operation.
