President Prabowo Appreciates BRIN’s Innovations in Waste Management, Eco-friendly Materials

President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation to the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) for its research and innovation in addressing various challenges and supporting national development. The President conveyed the appreciation during the meeting with BRIN researchers at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (8/6).

“Alhamdulillah, Mr. President was excited and thanked BRIN for its innovations in addressing various problems,” Head of BRIN Arif Satria said during a press conference following the meeting.

He further explained that the President gave great attention to waste management technology developed by BRIN. According to him, the technology is available at various scales, from household scales to city scales.

“Mr. President shows concern for the healthiness and cleanliness of our cities and villages, as they are essential to boost tourism,” he stated.

In addition to waste management, the President also paid attention to BRIN’s research in construction materials. The Head of BRIN explained that the previous President had given directives to develop eco-friendly roof tile technology, using local materials.

“BRIN has developed an eco-friendly roof tile technology, using the waste from oil palms, coconuts, and coconut fiber. And that is great because it produces light and eco-friendly tiles,” he claimed.

“We have collaborated with the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) to try out the tiles. And we also develop houses that resist earthquakes and can be completed in 14 to 30 days,” he added.

The Head of BRIN also mentioned the President’s interest in shoe innovation using oil palm waste, developed by BRIN. “So, Mr. President stated that these shoe industries are also people’s industries and must be developed and promoted,” he concluded.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/TM)
