President Prabowo Calls for Innovation in Accelerating Public Housing Program

President Prabowo emphasized the need for innovation to accelerate the affordable public housing program. The President conveyed the message during the mass signing of 62,000 Housing Loan Agreements (KPR) and Housing People’s Business Credit (KUR) worth Rp880 billion, held at Puri Delta City Side, Batang regency, Central Java province on Thursday (7/30) in a hybrid format.

The President expressed his appreciation to Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas for its achievements and successful collaboration with developers, banks, and the private sector. However, he reminded them that the demand for homeownership remains enormous, requiring faster and more massive efforts.

“We should be proud of the achievements, but we must understand that the demand for homeownership remains enormous. We are planning, we are preparing the more innovative measures,” the President stated.

The President emphasized the importance of learning and comparing with other countries. One breakthrough that the Government learned from was India’s success story in developing 40 million houses in 12 years.

“I am interested in other countries’ experience, such as India, which successfully built 40 million houses in 12 years. So, they built approximately 3 million houses per year. This is what I am learning,” he continued.

According to the President, the measures that have proven effective must continue. However, the Government must be courageous in finding new methods, embracing calculated risk, and promoting innovation to accelerate public housing development.

“But, we must, Indonesians must have courage; I believe in courage—courageous in thinking, learning from others, finding new technics, taking risks, implementing, and seeking innovation,” he stated.

The President underscored that the acceleration of the program requires collaboration across all sectors, including the Government, the central bank, state-owned banks, developers, and the private sector. This cooperation displays “Indonesia Incorporated”—a spirit showing big corporations support smaller ones to remain productive.

“We must become one, be one team, be united. Cooperation is the key,” stressed the President.

The President described housing problems as crucial, noting that housing provides protection and safety for people. Given a large population, Indonesia must demonstrate determination, commitment, and courage to face the challenges.

“And I believe that we will work harder, faster, and greater. Indonesia is a big nation. Our population is large. We face great problems,” said the President.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/MMB)
