President Prabowo Subianto called on ASEAN member countries to accelerate energy diversification amidst global uncertainties.
The President made the statement during the Plenary Session of the 48th ASEAN Summit, at Mactan Expo, Cebu, the Philippines, on Friday (05/08).
He said that geopolitical tension and disruptions are already putting very high pressure on the energy situation of many countries, including ASEAN countries.
“Prolonged disruptions along key global routes are already putting very high pressure on the energy situation of our countries and that pressure does not seem to ease anytime soon,” he stated.
The President went on to say that energy diversification is no longer optional but vital and a necessity. ASEAN countries, he added, must move faster to seeking alternative sources, preparing renewables, and strengthening preparation to anticipate global scenario.
In that forum, President Prabowo stated that Indonesia is taking concrete steps on the strengthening of its national energy security. These steps included developing alternatives for energy resources and renewables, using bioenergy, boosting the use of electric vehicles, and building a 100-gigawatt solar program energy program.
Through these measures, Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen energy security, and support the transition toward a cleaner, more self-reliant, and sustainable energy system. The President also called on ASEAN countries to strengthen cooperation in building a more resilient regional energy architecture capable of facing global dynamics.
