President Prabowo Subianto led the send-off ceremony for the Indonesian contingent that will participate at the 33rd SEA Games 2025 in Thailand on 9 – 20 December 2025. The ceremony was held in great solemnity and prompted a spirit of nationalism.

The send-off ceremony was started with the playing of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya”, and followed by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir submitted the national flag to Chief de Mission (CdM) of Indonesian Contingent Bayu Priawan Djokosoetono. The moment was witnessed by President Prabowo himself and it marked the initiation of the contingent’s official task to compete for Indonesia.

In his directive, President Prabowo emphasized that the athletes have gone through tough training sessions and selections. By having the opportunity to compete for Indonesia, the President expressed belief that it would be a great honor for the athletes to represent Indonesia in an international sports competition.

“I would like to say do your best. Give your best, give your all, because it is a moment of fighting for the honor of all Indonesian nation. You are representing almost 300 million Indonesian people,” President Prabowo said.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister reported that Indonesian contingent consists of 1,021 athletes that will compete in 48 sports disciplines. According to him, the athletes have prepared for two and a half months in national training centers.

In the future, we will hold national training sessions in a longer period as suggested by Mr. President, because Mr. President wants 21 sports disciplines to win more medals. So, we will do it as Mr. President suggested, national training sessions may be held for one up to two years to prepare for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles,” Youth and Sports Minister explained.

Furthermore, the Minister mentioned that Indonesia is targeting to be on top three as the achievement in the previous SEA Games in Cambodia.

“We want to be on the top 3 as we achieved in Cambodia, despite the fact that in Cambodia, Indonesia earned 87 gold medals, and now in Thailand, there are no competitions for the 41 medals we earned, Sir. So, we have to fight harder for more gold medals, maybe around 80 or more, Sir, so we can be at the third place,” the Minister firmly said.
