President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (01/14) welcomed General Chairperson of the Central Leadership of Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) (the women’s wing of Indonesia’s largest Muslim mass organization), Khofifah Indar Parawansa, and the ranks of Muslimat NU administrators at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

During the meeting, Khofifah reported various programs and services that Muslimat NU has implemented.

On that occasion, the President expressed his appreciation for Muslimat NU’s various initiatives which are considered to directly address the needs of the community at the grassroots level.

“The President expressed his deep appreciation because Muslimat NU cares about those small things. With Muslimat NU’s vast network, we hope that the effectiveness of its programs can make more significant impacts,” Khofifah told journalists after the meeting.

In the meantime, Khofifah also introduced two new programs that will be launched at the 18th Congress of Muslimat NU, namely Mustika Mesem (Beautiful Muslim Women Eradicating Extreme Poverty) and Mustika Darling (Beautiful Muslim Women Aware of the Environment).

The Mustika Mesem program aims to eradicate extreme poverty through simple activities carried out at the branch levels, such as Quran learning forums.

Khofifah also gave an example of the initiative to bring eggs to such forums as a form of direct contribution to the extremely poor community and children with stunting.

“So this is one example of how the Mustika Mesem program can address those who show indications of experiencing stunting and also address those who are categorized as extremely poor people according to the village data,” said Khofifah.

Meanwhile, the Mustika Darling program promotes environmental awareness through waste management carried out by Muslimat NU cadres in various regions.

Khofifah explained that Mustika Darling cadres in every Quran learning forum will sort waste and clean up waste in their surrounding environment.

“If each branch and then each sub-branch do the same thing and the others can follow their example, I think the problem of waste accumulation in various regions can be relatively minimized,” said Khofifah.

Khofifah also explained that the meeting also discussed preparations for the 18th Congress of Muslimat NU which will be held on February 11-16, 2025 in the city of Surabaya and will be attended by thousands of delegates from all over Indonesia.

“We meet the President to ask for his attendance at the opening of the Congress, which, God willing, will be held on next February 12, attended by 532 branches, then 11 special branch leaders, and 37 Regional Administrators of Muslimat NU,” said Khofifah. (BPMI Setpres/ABD)
