President Prabowo Subianto chaired a limited cabinet meeting with several ministers at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/9) to discuss accelerating the Government’s priority programs.

“We have just concluded the limited meeting chaired by Mr. President. According to his directives, the implementation of all the programs must be expedited. There must be no obstruction resulting from excessive paperwork, restrictive regulations, and so on” Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasab said after the meeting.

In the food sector, the Coordinating Minister said that the Government is focusing on two major agendas, namely optimizing existing productive agricultural land and developing new cultivated areas for food crops. The new land development includes areas in Papua (Wanam area), South Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, and other provinces.

“Specifically, for Wanam, roads and port facilities have already been built and are nearly complete.  However, we still need to finalize the spatial planning process. The area is being handled by the integrated team. We are now moving to expedite the designated land-use conversion,” he said.

The Coordinating Minister highlighted that the Government is not only focusing on carbohydrates but also paying close attention to ensuring sufficient protein availability for the people. To support this, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is scheduled to develop 20,000 hectares of fishponds this year from the overall target of 70,000 hectares.

In addition to food-related programs, the Coordinating Minister highlighted that acceleration measures will also be applied to the Red and White Village Cooperative program. Similarly, the Fishermen’s Village program is targeted to reach 100 villages this year. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/TM)
