President Prabowo Subianto officially announced that Indonesia has managed to achieve food self-sufficiency in 2025.
“By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this morning, Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby announce that the Indonesian people achieved food self-sufficiency in 2025,” he said at the Great Harvest at Kertamukti village, Karawang regency, West Java province, on Wednesday (01/07).
In his remarks, the President stated that food self-sufficiency is a fundamental milestone for a nation’s independence and sovereignty. He added that no country is truly independent if its food supply depends on other countries.
“No nation is truly free if food is not available to its people,” he said, adding that Indonesia learned to be independent in food and energy sector after noticing that a number of rice producers stop exporting rice during COVID-19 pandemic in order to secure domestic needs.
The Head of State went on to say that during his presidential inauguration, he has set a target of achieving food self-sufficiency in four years. Surprisingly, the target successfully met in only a year through hard work and collaboration of all parties.
Therefore, President Prabowo extended his appreciation to farmers, agricultural extension officers, as well as the entire Indonesian agricultural community who have proven that Indonesia is able to rely on its own strength.
“Today, you have given the nation and the state clear and tangible proof. In my view, you have marked an important milestone in Indonesia’s independence,” he added.
In the meantime, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman also delivered his high appreciation for President Prabowo’s attention and leadership in agricultural sector. He added that the success of food self-sufficiency is the result of the President’s grand vision, realized through the collective efforts of the Red and White Cabinet and all members of the agricultural community across the nation.
“Approximately 160 million farmers throughout Indonesia extended their thanks to the President who paid close attention to agricultural sector. Once again, on behalf of all Indonesian farmers, we cannot thank you enough, Mr. President,” he added. The Minister said that the food self-sufficiency is one of the most remarkable achievements of the Red and White Cabinet during President Prabowo’s administration.
