Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya Sunday morning (08/24) praised the public’s high enthusiasm for taking part in the Merdeka Run 8.0K in Jakarta.

With extraordinary energy, the Merdeka Run gathered thousands of runners from all walks of life in a celebration of unity, commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence.

“Thank you very much to the community members who have gathered and prepared to run together since early morning. The number of participants exceeded the registration quota, reaching more than 8,000 people from Jakarta, its surroundings, and even outside the city,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy said in a written statement.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy extended his appreciation not only to the runners but also to the wider public who cheered along the route. Their support demonstrated that the spirit of independence can be celebrated inclusively and shared by all elements of the nation without barriers.

“I also thank the community for your encouragement throughout the run. You are all extraordinary!” he wrote.

The Cabinet Secretary stated that the event was jointly organized by the Presidential Palace and the Ministry of Youth and Sports as part of the series of the 80th Independence Day commemoration events.

“Together with thousands of runners from all walks of life, we joined the Merdeka Run 8.0K, starting from the Merdeka Palace, passing the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout and the Sudirman area to BNI City, and returning to the Merdeka Palace,” the Cabinet Secretary said.

Through the Merdeka Run, the Government seeks to create an atmosphere of independence that is marked not only by formal ceremonies but also by activities that foster fitness, unity, and optimism, adding that sport was also chosen as a way to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among the public.

The Cabinet Secretary also stated that events such as the Merdeka Run serve as a means for the public to directly experience the celebration of Independence Day.

“Through this series of events, we hope August will always be a highly anticipated month, filled with activities that the public can take part in,” he concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RIF/TM)
