President Prabowo visits urban communities in Senen district, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (03/26).

On the afternoon of Thursday (03/26), an unexpected event unfolded in a densely populated neighborhood in Kramat, Senen district, Central Jakarta. Amid routine daily activities, President Prabowo Subianto made an unannounced visit to the area, creating a moment of surprise and emotional response among residents.

The visit took place without prior notice, and the situation quickly shifted as the President stepped out of his vehicle and began greeting residents. Within moments, the atmosphere transformed into a mix of disbelief, excitement, and emotional engagement.

Residents from various backgrounds—including adults and children—gathered excitedly to see the President, shake hands, and directly convey their aspirations.

One resident, Nur Hanifah, expressed her emotional reaction, noting that she left her cooking to greet the President. Similarly, another resident, Yana, emphasized the importance of continuing social assistance programs, particularly the Family Assistance Program (PKH) and the Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG), which she viewed as essential for supporting children from low-income households.

Additional testimonies reflected similar sentiments. Wawan, a street performer, described the visit as deeply moving and unprecedented for the community. Meanwhile, Cono, a waste picker, shared that he had a brief direct conversation with the President, during which he raised concerns about limited housing conditions. According to Cono, the President informally proposed the possibility of developing low-cost apartment housing, to which residents expressed strong interest.

This unannounced visit illustrates a form of the state’s presence, where leaders engage with citizens in their everyday environments to greet, listen, and propose solutions.

By entering a neighborhood often overlooked in formal policy processes, the visit transformed an ordinary space into a platform for citizens’ voice and expectation. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/LW)
