President Prabowo Subianto Thursday (09/04) attended the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Mawlid al-Nabi) and a national prayer gathering at the Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta.

The event, which drew thousands of worshippers from across the country, carried the theme: “Ecotheology: The Prophet Muhammad’s Example for the Sustainability of the Earth and the Nation.”

The solemn ceremony began with recitations from the Qur’an delivered by Qari Qadarasmadi Rasyid, who recited verses from Surah Al-Qasas (28:77) and Surah Al-Ahzab (33:45–48), followed by Velly Syukron, who presented the interpretation of the verses.

Afterwards, Minister of Religious Affairs Nazaruddin Umar delivered the keynote address, urging attendees to emulate the Prophet in all aspects of life, including leadership and community management.

“May God’s blessings and peace be upon Prophet Muhammad who has served as our best role model in all aspects of our life. Thomas Carlyle regarded Prophet Muhammad as the best of the greatest figures in human history, and Michael Hart ranked him first among the 100 most influential people of all time,” the Minister said.

Nazaruddin emphasized that the Prophet’s excellence extended beyond spiritual leadership, encompassing organizational and societal governance.

“One of the reasons the Prophet is admired globally is because he exemplified the qualities of not only the best leader but also the best manager. There are many people who have managed to become leaders but do not manage to rise into the best managers. The Prophet has proved to be both the best leader and the best manager,” he remarked.

The event concluded with a prayer, led by Istiqlal Mosque’s Imam Husni Ismail, seeking peace, national unity, and the well-being of the Indonesian people and the global community.

Also attending the event were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, Speaker of People’s Consultative Assembly Ahmad Muzani, Ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, foreign ambassadors, and religious scholars. The event was also followed virtually by representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ regional offices across 34 provinces, 585 regencies/municipalities, and state Islamic universities across the country.
