President Putin: Indonesia is Russia’s Key Partner in Asia Pacific
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin considered Indonesia a key partner for Russia in the Asia-Pacific region.
“Indonesia is Russia’s most important partner in the Asia-Pacific region. We are connected through our years of good friendship,” he said when meeting with President Prabowo Subianto in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (09/03).
President Putin affirmed that Indonesia and Russia’s strong friendship will continue to flourish including in the trade sector, as its bilateral trade volume increased by 12 percent last year. Both countries, he added, will continue to foster their bilateral relations on economic as well as trade sectors, and various technical cooperations through the Russia-Indonesia Joint Commission, focusing on agriculture, shipbuilding, digital technology, and energy, particularly nuclear energy.
On that occasion, President Putin said that Indonesia is one of Russia’s trusted partners in ASEAN. Both countries will strengthen their cooperations in several international organizations, including the United Nations.
“I believe this meeting will give a new momentum to the bilateral relations between our two countries,” he concluded.
In the meantime, President Prabowo Subianto asserted that Russia is a highly important partner for Indonesia, with bilateral relations that have spanned over five decades and have now elevated into a strategic partnership.
“We were honored and delighted to elevate this relationship into a strategic partnership last year,” he said.
Indonesia also felt honored to be able to participate in the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF). President Prabowo said that the forum has a great potential to serve as a bridge for cooperation and connectivity in the region.
He went to say that maritime connectivity and cooperation are among the key areas that can continue to be developed together as Indonesia and Russia are both Pacific nations. Indonesia and Russia’s bilateral relations, he added, are growing stronger including in the economic and trade sectors.
“Indonesia will continue to enhance cooperation across all sectors to achieve mutual benefits for both of our countries,” President Prabowo concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/MMB)
