President Prabowo Subianto has called for a comprehensive transformation of state electricity company PT PLN (Persero), focusing on business model overhauls, improved efficiency and productivity, and the accelerated adoption of 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar panels.

The directives were delivered by the President during a meeting with Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani, and Director of Project Management and New Renewable Energy of PT PLN (Persero) Suroso Isnandar at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (10/14).

“We’ve discussed how, first, to accelerate PLN’s transformation to become better, faster, more responsive, and also to accelerate the adoption of 100 GW of solar panels,” the BKPM Head told the press.

He explained that President Prabowo specifically requested that PLN revamps its business model. The transformation plan must be drafted immediately and presented to the President for follow-up action.

“Later, we at Danantara will certainly sit down with the PLN team so this transformation can be carried out comprehensively, which can also reduce subsidies and improve efficiency and productivity at PLN,” he explained.

According to the BKPM Head, evaluating the business model is a priority to ensure PLN is managed more effectively and delivers a positive impact on the national economy. The Government will also conduct an assessment before submitting the transformation proposal to the President.

“We will revisit and look closely at the business model to see how best to make it more efficient, better, and positively impact our economy as a whole,” he said.

The BKPM Head also emphasized the importance of strengthening PLN’s preparedness for emergencies, including refining backup plans to maintain the reliability of electricity services across Indonesia. He emphasized that although PLN already has mechanisms to handle crisis situations, these processes still require further improvement. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/MMB)
