Vice President Ma’ruf Amin and Ibu Wury Ma’ruf Amin Saturday (08/17), accompanied by Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka and Ibu Selvi Ananda, attended the commemoration ceremony of the 79th Anniversary of Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

The Vice President and Ibu Wury donned traditional Melayu Sambas attire from Pontianak, West Kalimantan province, while Vice President-elect Gibran donned traditional attire from Papua, and Ibu Selvi donned traditional attire from Lampung.

In his press statement, the Vice President said that this year’s ceremony is a historic moment because it was held simultaneously in Jakarta and the Nusantara Capital (IKN), while underscoring that the ceremony represents the unity and togetherness of the Indonesian nation, which are not hindered by geographical boundaries.

“The ceremony can be held in two locations. It is also our hope that this will further strengthen the unity of Indonesia, togetherness, justice, and equity for all Indonesian people,” he said.

The ceremony commemorating the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence was also a memorable one for the Vice President. Moreover, this year marks the last Independence Day celebration under the leadership of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

“This is what we call “wada” a farewell ceremony, the last one. That is why it is so memorable, especially since the ceremony was held in two locations, which is unusual. This is a historic moment,” the Vice President remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/DNS) (AP/MUR)
