President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, accompanied by Mrs. Iriana Joko Widodo, visited Dukuh Kupang Market, Surabaya city, East Java province, on Friday, September 20, 2024. During the visit, President Jokowi inspected the prices of basic necessities and engaged directly with merchants and the local community.

The President stated that the prices of basic necessities in the market were in stable. “I just stopped by to check the prices. Everything seems fine. I noted the price of eggs at Rp24,00 and cayenne pepper at Rp35,000. I think the prices are good, possibly due to the excess supply,” said the President after the inspection.

Sari, a merchant selling basic necessities merchant, had a conversation with President Jokowi. She explained that the President inquired about the prices of several essential items.

“The President came here to check the prices of rice, eggs, and other basic necessities. For now, the prices are stable. I am very grateful. I hope Pak Jokowi stays healthy,” said Sari.

In addition to the inspection, Mrs. Iriana also shopped at several stalls. Ria, who sells chili, shallot, and ginger, was pleasantly surprised by Mrs. Iriana’s presence.

Alhamdulillah, I am so happy. I never expected Pak Jokowi and Ibu Iriana to visit. Ibu Iriana bought chilies, shallots, and ginger,” Ria said.

It wasn’t just the merchants who had memorable moments; some market visitors did too. Sudarmi expressed her emotions after meeting and shaking hands with President Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana.

“I received a bag and a T-shirt from Pak Jokowi. I also got to shake hands with both Pak Jokowi and Ibu Iriana. Alhamdulillah, I was so grateful that I was trembling. I never imagined this would happen, especially since I am just a maid,” said Sudarmi.

“I am deeply thankful to Pak Jokowi and Ibu Iriana. I wish them health and prosperity,” she added.

Similarly, Yuli, an online motorcycle taxi driver, could not hold back his tears. He had long hoped to meet President Jokowi and take a photo with him.

“I wanted to take a photo with him since he became president, and today my dream came true. Alhamdulillah, I received a gift from Ibu Iriana and a small envelop from Pak Jokowi. It is a true blessing for me. Barakallah for Pak Jokowi and family,” said Yuli. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/ABD)(AW/EP)
