President Prabowo Subianto emphasized self-sufficiency amid global dynamics on Thursday (01/15) at Presidential Palace, Jakarta. Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, in a press conference, noted that the President highlighted global geopolitical dynamics that require every nation to stand tall and to survive strongly.

“Mr. President also mentioned some other matters. Firstly, about the global issue, the geopolitics where there is a significant geopolitical shift, therefore every nation must be self-sufficient, must survive,” said Brian, quoting the President’s message on the President’s directives to the invitee Rectors and High Officials from public universities.

President Prabowo believed that higher education can be a locomotor to mastering science and national technology. Indonesia must prepare its human resources, considering that it is the center of global dynamics, which has plenty of resources, he added.

“This is, of course, by mastering science and technology, the universities should be the locomotive,” Brian continued.

President Prabowo expressed hope that universities and professors contribute significantly to creating a high-quality young generation to address global challenges. “The President wishes that universities play significant roles, create high-quality human resources,” said Brian.

In addition to global challenges, President Prabowo also underscored national problems, such as corruption, under-invoicing, and fraud. This situation demands that universities create a high-quality young generation both in capacity and capability, who have integrity and nationalism.

“This financial loss has challenged universities to create high-quality human resources in capacity, capability, and also having high integrity, and has a good intention for the people, to the nation,” said Brian.

The President’s message has become a reflection of all universities regarding the national challenge and great potential, Brian added. “Again, these [challenges] require science and technology mastering and high-quality human resources who have integrity,” he concluded.
