In a bid to maintain solemnity during the Independence Day Ceremony of the Republic of Indonesia on 17 August 2021, the Indonesian people have been urged to pause their activities for a moment and to stand up straight at 10.17 Western Indonesian Times.

“Stop your activities for three minutes on 17 August at 10.17 Western Indonesian Time. Stand up to respect the commemoration of our Independence Day,” Minister of State Secretary Pratikno said in a video aired on Sunday (15/08)

In the video, Indonesian athletes who won medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics also invite the public to do so.

The invitation was made by badminton women’s doubles pair, who won gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu, as well as lifter Eko Yuli Irawan, a silver medalist in the men’s 61-kilogram weightlifting category.

Three bronze medalists, Windy Cantika Aisah (women’s 49-kilogram weightlifting category), Rahmat Erwin Abdullah (men’s 73-kilogram weightlifting category), and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (badminton men’s singles), also took part in the video.

“Let’s stand up straight and stand tall at the ceremony commemorating the 76th Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia during the singing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya. A Resilient Indonesia, An Advancing Indonesia,” the athletes exclaimed.

For the record, just like last year’, this year’s Independence Day Ceremony, will only be attended by a limited number of invitees involved during the ceremony by implementing strict health protocols. This is done to prioritize public health and safety amid COVID-19 pandemic. (BPMI /UN) (FI/EP)
