Deputy for Geophysics of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Muhammad Sadly has denied the circulating news on the possibility of a major earthquake and tsunami that will hit in Ambon, Piru Bay, and Saparua.

Citing a monitoring report of the BMKG, Sadly said that up to 27 September 2019 (10:00 Western Indonesian Time/WIB), after a strong 6.5-magnitude quake that hit Kairatu, Ambon, and Haruku on 26 September 2019, there had been 264 quake with various magnitude ranging from 3.0 to 5.6.

“The frequency of quake tends to decrease,” Sadly said on Friday (27/9).

Currently, Sadly continued, there are no technology that can predict when earthquakes occur accurately. “We urge the people to remain calm and not to believe unverified rumors,” he added.

Sadly further said that the people can also monitor the official BMKG channels through social media (Instagram/Twitter @infoBMKG), website (https://www.bmkg.go.id or inatews.bmkg.go.id), and mobile apps (iOS/Android): WRS-BMKG or InfoBMKG for the latest information. (BMKG PR/ES)
