BSSN Head: BSSN Protects Indonesian Cyberspace

The National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) was established to protect Indonesian people and interest in cyberspace, Head of BSSN Lieutenant General (ret) Hinsa Siburian has said.

“So our priority is to secure it. We will continue to strengthen our security in the cyberspace to protect this nation from cyber threats. The business processes in the digital economy might be vulnerable if we don’t secure it,” Hinsa said at a discussion with the mass media at Djakarta Theater XXI, Jakarta, Wednesday (4/12).

Hinsa pointed out a malware attack as an example of cyber threats that can hinder the business process. “The main task of BSSN is to ensure that all networks to conduct the business process or the digital economy are secure,” he said.

He also asked for support and assistance of the media to promote this new government agency and its function to the public.

Cyber attacks, he said, can be physical and non-physical. He mentioned cyberattacks on critical infrastructures such as electricity as a physical attack, as well as the circulation of hoaxes as a non-physical attack.

Hinsa also mentioned that there are currently cyberattacks that can undermine cultural and religious values, even its government. Some countries, he said, have been torn down.

“We want that with the existence of BSSN, the values of Pancasila (the Five Principles, the Indonesian State Ideology) can be fully informed and understood by the public,” he stated. (RSF/ES)
