President Jokowi Sends Condolences over Passing of Gus Sholah

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo sent his deepest condolences for the passing of Salahuddin “Gus Sholah” Wahid.

”On behalf of the Government and all Indonesian people, I extend my deepest condolences over the passing of Kyai Salahuddin Wahid this evening at 8:55 p.m. at Harapan Kita Hospital,” President Jokowi said at the deceased’s residence, Jakarta, Monday (3/2).

Gus Sholah is a role model for Muslim scholars. “Indonesian people feel a great loss with his passing,” he said, adding that may God accept his good deeds and grant his family great patience.

On the occasion, Presiden Jokowi also recalled his last two meetings with Gus Sholah at Tebuireng Islamic boarding school in Jombang and at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

“He taught us a great deal about Islam and nationalism,” the President added. (MAY/EN)
