President Jokowi: National Exam Policy Must Not Violate Student Rights

The 2020 National Exam policy must not violate students’ rights, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“But, do not let it violate the rights of 8.3 million students who are about to take the National Exam,” President Jokowi stated on his introductory remarks at the limited cabinet meeting on the 2020 National Exam through a video conference at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (24/3).

The policy, the President added, must be taken in the midst of the Government’s efforts in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are aware that the COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting the educational process in the country and we have also implemented the policy to study at home in order to contain the spread of COVID-19,” the President explained.

This current situation, according to the President, has affected the Government’s plan on the 2020 National Exam. Around 8.3 million students from 106 thousand educational units across the country are about to take the National Exam.

“Therefore, we have to make an immediate decision. There are three available options: first, to still implement the Exam; second, to postpone the Exam; or third, to abolish the Exam,” he concluded.(TGH/FID/EN)
