The Government has announced it will shift the nation’s tourism industry from ‘quantity tourism industry’ to ‘quality tourism industry.’

“The measures includes adding extra concern to cleanliness, health and safety factors,” Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama said Thursday (28/5).

According to him, preparation of the tourism industry to enter the new normal era includes a variety of stages that must be passed by a tourist destination.

“Surely one of the conditions is that a tourist destination must have a low number of COVID-19 cases under certain parameters before it can move to other stages,” he said.

One of the first things to prepare is Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), he added.

“SOPs that will be applied in tourism sector will be prepared in various fields. The SOP will be applied in tourism related places such as hotels, restaurants and others,” he said, adding that the next step is simulation of the SOPs.

“After the simulation, we will do disseminate and try out the SOP,” he said.

The Government, he added, will also prioritize regions that are most ready to reopen their tourism industry.

“Therefore, the Central Government has coordinated with a number of regional leaders who are ready to carry out those stages,” he said.

The Minister went on to say that future tourism trends will indeed change in this new normal era, adding that some things that will become concern such as cleanliness, health and safety factors or commonly called clean, health, and safety (CHS).

“That is a very important aspect that the Government is currently preparing. Besides CHS, quality tourism has also become an important factor in the new normal era,” he added.

Wishnutama also pointed out that the Government also continues to prepare supporting infrastructures in tourist destinations, airports, seaports, and others, including the readiness of the creative economy sector to support the success of tourism industry.

The Minister further said that under the new normal period, the Government will focus on domestic tourists.

“The Government has done very intensive coordination with various regions to prepare for the stages of the health protocol that I mentioned earlier,” Wishnutama said (FID/EN)
