President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has instructed the Working Committee for COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery as well as Minister of Home Affairs to remind the Regional Working Committee, Governors, Regents and Mayors to work hard in dealing with the pandemic.

“The most important factor is the strategy of maintaining a balance between COVID-19 handling and the economy,” the President said in his remarks during a Limited Cabinet Meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (24/8).

The President also said that there had been a significant increase of (COVID-19) cases in several countries, including Spain, France, Germany, India, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Iran, Nepal, and South Korea.

“We must be aware of the recent development of those countries and maintain control in handling the pandemic, both  at central and regional level,” the President stated.

On that occasion, the President also said that the procurement of vaccine (for Indonesia) will be approximately 20-30 million doses by the end of 2020 and approximately 290 million doses by the end of 2021.

The President further said that if Indonesia can get the “Red and White” vaccine (the national vaccine), Indonesia can produce more and, if the supply exceeds the domestic demand, the vaccine can be exported to other countries. (FID/EN)
