Gov’t to Apply Micro-Scale Restrictions in All Provinces Next Month

The Government has announced it will impose micro-scale activity restrictions (PPKM Mikro) in all provinces next month.

“For the next period of micro-scale activity restrictions, starting from 1 June to 14 June, the restrictions will be implemented in four more provinces, namely Gorontalo province, Maluku province, North Maluku province and West Sulawesi province,” Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said after a limited cabinet meeting in Jakarta, Monday (24/05).

Airlangga, who also helms Committee for COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery, pointed out that 56.4 percent of the national active cases were reported in the island of Java and 21.3 percent of the national active cases were reported in the island of Sumatra.

The five provinces that contribute to 65 percent of the national active cases were West Java province, Jakarta province, Papua province, Central Java province, and Riau province.

As of 23 May, he added, the national active cases rate was 5.2 percent, the recovery rate was 92.0 percent, and the mortality rate was 2.8 percent.

In the meantime, the national Bed Occupancy Ratio (BOR) for isolation rooms and ICU were at 31 percent, while several regions had higher BOR than the national average.

“There is no region that have reported BOR above 60 percent, but some regions have reported higher BOR than the national average, namely North Sumatra province (58 percent), Riau province (55 percent), West Sumatra province (54 percent), Aceh province (47 percent), Bangka Belitung province (47 percent), South Sumatra province (47 percent), Riau province (47 percent), Jambi province (43 percent), and Lampung province (41 percent),” Airlangga explained.

The Minister went on to say that the level of public compliance in using face masks is related to the level of COVID-19 active cases.

Airlangga further said that the level of public compliance in using a face mask is 88.89 percent in Bali province, 87 percent in East Java province, 65 percent in Jakarta province, 73 percent in West Java province, 75 percent in Central Java province, 67 percent in Riau province, 70 percent in Riau Islands province, and 62.76 percent in North Sumatra province.

“It seems that the regions reporting compliance level below 70 percent have a higher number of active cases,” Airlangga said. (DND/UN) (RI/EP)
