Gov’t to Complete Sei Pancang Integrated Cross-Border Post by December 2021
Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has renewed its commitment to complete the construction of Sei Pancang Integrated Cross-Border Posts (PLBN) as the entrance of the Indonesia-Malaysia border in North Kalimantan Province to become the gateway for economic activities in the 3T (outermost, frontline and disadvantaged) regions in Nunukan Regency and boost economic equality and the welfare of the locals.
“The cross-border post is not only an entry gate but also an engine of a regional economic growth center to improve the welfare of border communities,” Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said as quoted from the Ministry’s website, Tuesday (6/7).
The construction of the cross-border post has begun on 24 February 2020 and was scheduled to be completed by December 2021. As of 27 June 2021, the infrastructure construction progress has reached 52.51 percent with a financial absorption of 56.70 percent from the initial contract value of Rp226.18 billion through a multi-year contract scheme for the 2020-2021 period.
The Sei Pancang Integrated Cross-Border Post was built on an area of 68,169 square meters. The construction is divided into a core zone and a supporting zone that includes the main building, employee mess, and Wisma Indonesia. In order to support the operations, there are also ticketing and corridors, water towers and Ground Water Tank (GWT), waste management sites, bridges, utilities and plazas, roads and pedestrians, as well as fences.
The cross-border post was also built with the concept of green infrastructure through landscape arrangement, planting trees and grass, and a roof garden for high-rise buildings. The cross-border post location can be accessed using a speed boat with a travel time of about three hours from Tarakan City, North Kalimantan.
For the record, the Sei Pancang Integrated Cross-Border Post is one of four PLBNs built by Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing in North Kalimantan as a mandate from Presidential Instruction Number 1 of 2019 on Acceleration of Development of 11 Integrated PLBNs and Supporting Infrastructure in Border Areas. The other three Integrated PLBNs are Long Midang and Labang in Nunukan Regency and Long Nawang in Malinau Regency. (PR of Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing/UN) (RIF/LW)
