Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia during Inspection to Areas Affected by Mount Semeru Eruption, 7 December 2021, in Lumajang Regency, East Java Province
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
First of all, on behalf of the Government and all Indonesian people, I would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to the fallen victims due to Mount Semeru eruption in Lumajang regency, East Java province.
This morning, I came to the affected areas to ensure that all the forces we have are already on the ground to recover the survivors, to evacuate, and to handle affected residents on the ground. We will also make plans to revamp damaged infrastructure due to Mount Semeru eruption.
At the evacuation center, I also wanted to ensure that evacuee-related matters are being handled properly, including food, health, and clean water. I think the condition is improving. And, we hope after all things have been well managed, we can start revamping infrastructure or possibly relocating them from places deemed dangerous to be reinhabited. Earlier, I have been informed that there are approximately two thousand houses that must be relocated. We will immediately decide where to relocate and begin the construction all at once because I think everything is ready.
That concludes my statement.
