Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

This afternoon, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Minister of Social Affairs, Minister of Transportation, Minister of State Secretary, Governor of West Kalimantan, Regent of Sintang, Head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Head of Commission V of the House of Representatives and I inspect infrastructure development serving as flood control.

For the short term, the construction covers geo tube embankments filled with sand that is expected to reduce the existing flooding. For the medium and long terms, it will prevent flood due to extreme rain. Secondly, we also need to restore damage in watershed and catchment area. We also need to do replanting, to start reforestation in areas surrounding Kapuas River and Melawi River.

We hope those efforts can improve catchment area, improve watersheds, particularly in the upstream area. We will order Ministry of the Environment and Forestry and big private enterprises around here to build a nursery to ensure the reforestation.

That concludes my statement on this auspicious occasion. Earlier, I had also distributed assistances from the Ministry of Social Affairs to flood-affected residents.
