President Jokowi: Indonesia Continues to Reform Economic Structure Amid Pandemic

For Indonesia, the pandemic serves as a period of self-improvement by laying new foundations for stronger and sustainable growth, while continuing to reform its economic structure and improve business climate, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“We have improved investment ecosystem and ease of licensing. We have provided legal certainty and special incentives for priority investment sectors,” President Jokowi said in his remarks at the World Economic Forum: State of the World Address which held virtually, Thursday (01/20).

Indonesia, the President continued, also continues to improve human capital’s quality through various programs, ranging from upskilling and reskilling, establishing polytechnics in collaboration with industry and collaboration with universities abroad.

“Indonesia also continues to boost infrastructure development to increase investment and create favorable business climate. We will continue to develop new sources of growth, especially the green economy, including the development of the electric vehicle industry ecosystem and the development of the largest green industrial area in North Kalimantan,” he said.

President Jokowi further said that the Government will also continue to strengthen collaboration with the private sector, adding that investment in six priority sectors will be opened in a larger and wider scale, namely export-oriented labor-intensive industries, renewable energy, infrastructure, automotive, tourism, and mining.

The Government, he added, has also prioritized a number of developments, including increasing food production through food estates development, implementation of low-carbon development concept, and transforming to digital economy through expansion, equity, and improvement of the quality of digital infrastructure and services.

“I’d like to invite all stakeholders in the forum to partner with Indonesia. Let us advance together, grow together,” President Jokowi remarked. (FID/UN) (GWH/EP)
