Your Excellency President Steinmeier,

It is an honor for me to welcome President of Germany, Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, along with the delegation. Indonesia is one of the first destinations of bilateral visit of the German President after being re-elected in February this year. Surely it presents the close relationship between the two countries. Germany holds the G7 Presidency and Indonesia holds the G20 Presidency and I am acquainted with President Steinmeier since we have ever met in Jakarta in 2014 when he was still Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Our bilateral meeting was very friendly and productive. Regarding bilateral issues, we focused on economic cooperation.

First, the importance of cooperation in Industry 4.0, particularly the acceleration of HR development. There is an MoU between Ministry of Industry and Deutsche Messe AG with Infineon AG which will be signed this afternoon. In addition, Indonesia will become a partner country for the Hannover Messe in 2023, after participating in the Industry 4.0 exhibition at the Hannover Messe in 2022.

Second, increasing German investment in high-tech industries, including investment in the electric vehicle sectors from upstream to downstream. I invite German industry to develop semiconductor factories in Indonesia and make this industry part of the global chip supply chain, and to invest in green industrial areas in Indonesia. I reiterate Indonesia’s invitation to Germany to build a German Industrial Quarter in an industrial area in Indonesia.

Third, strengthening cooperation on climate change. I extend my appreciation for Germany’s support in the construction of the € 2.5 billion Green Infrastructure Initiative, the construction of the world’s mangrove center which was just inaugurated a few days ago, the integration of green transmission in North Sulawesi with value of € 150 million, as well as a geothermal energy development pilot project worth € 300 million. I invite Germany to become Indonesia’s partner in achieving its full potential in new renewable energy sources.

Fourth, the cooperation in the G20 under the Indonesian Presidency and the G7 under the German Presidency. Both the G20 and the G7 have the same priority, namely the energy transition. I invite Germany and the G7 countries to share their knowledge and technology, as well as access to finance. I also invite Germany to support the formation of energy transition financing and the carbon market in Indonesia, as well as research cooperation in the sectors of hydrogen energy and electric cars.

Regarding regional and global issues, we have discussed the situation in Ukraine and Indo-Pacific cooperation. I reaffirm Indonesia’s commitment regarding the importance of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. To that end, international principles and laws must be consistently adhered to, and a culture of peace and mutual respect, as well as the spirit of cooperation, need to be strengthened.

I also encourage the strengthening of cooperation to overcome the impact of war in Ukraine, particularly on food and energy sectors. Regarding cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, I reiterate the importance of inclusive regional architecture that puts forward the spirit of collaboration, not containment, in the Indo-Pacific region in the spirit of multilateralism and peace cooperation.

That concludes my statement. I respectfully invite President Steinmeier to deliver his statement.

I thank you.
