In a bid to ensure the readiness of the G20 Summit in Bali next month, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (10/31) at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, led a limited cabinet meeting to finalize preparations for the summit.

“We will talk in detail and there will be several more meetings with President Jokowi this week since the President aims to ensure that our chairmanship, our presidency at the G20 Summit, inshallah, can run well amid the global unfavorable situation,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L.P. Marsudi said after the meeting.

To date, the Ministry continued, the preparations for the summit—which will take place between the ASEAN Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the APEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand—are going well. “After we carried out a detailed run-through of the program, in general, alhamdulillah, so far all preparations are going well,” she added.

In addition, Retno stated that the leaders’ attendance confirmation level is very high, including from the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni.

“Also, we are still waiting for confirmation due to special circumstances, for example, Brazil has just finished the runoff election but the newly-elected president will take office on January 1, so we are still waiting for confirmation from them,” Retno said.

The leaders of the G20 countries, she added, are slated to arrive in Bali starting on November 13.

“Most of them, as per today’s data, will arrive on November 14 and will leave Bali on the 16th afternoon or November 17 since some of the leaders will also fly to Bangkok to attend the APEC Summit,” Retno remarked. (FID/UN) (GWH/MUR)
