The Government has announced it continues repair of infrastructure, particularly roads used for production and logistics, in order to avoid supply chain disruption.

“Logistics and production roads must not be badly damaged. That will disrupt [logistics transportation] and increase logistics costs, worsen inflation. We aim to improve the infrastructure,” President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said in his press statement at PPN 1 Vocational School in South Kualuh sub-district, North Labuhanbatu regency, North Sumatra province, Wednesday (05/17).

The President also pointed out that road infrastructure in North Sumatra province will immediately be repaired by the Government, adding that the road repaired is not only Jalan Gunting Saga, which was directly inspected by the President, but also the roads in Asahan regency.

“They will be repaired immediately. Inshaalah, the work will begin in July. The roads repaired are not only the roads in North Labuhanbatu, but also in Asahan as we have identified all the damaged roads,” he said.

The President stated that other roads in the province will also be inspected and repaired, adding that the Government has set aside a budget of Rp800 billion for road repair in North Sumatra

However, provincial, regency, and city governments still bear the responsibility to repair roads under their authority, the President added.

“We are taking over the task to repair infrastructure roads from regencies, cities, and provinces that do not have the capability to do it. Thus, we are taking over some of it. Provinces, regencies, and cities still have the responsibility to repair other roads. They must not take it for granted and do nothing instead. We want to help, speed up the process, and repair them to follow up on the public’s complaints,” he remarked. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (DH/EP)
