Statement of President of the Republic of Indonesia on Revocation of COVID-19 Pandemic Status, Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, June 21, 2023

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

May prosperity be upon us all.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Esteemed Guests,

After more than three years together in the fight against COVID-19, the Government today decided to lift the pandemic status as we are entering an endemic period.

The decision was based on the country’s total daily COVID-19 cases, which are close to zero. The national serology survey shows that around 99 percent of Indonesians have antibodies against coronavirus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also revoked the public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) status for COVID-19.

Nevertheless, I urge the public to stay vigilant and to constantly live a healthy and clean lifestyle. Following the decision, the Government hopes the national economy will improve the quality of people’s socio-economic life.
