President Jokowi Attends State Welcoming Ceremony in Tanzania

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (08/21) was officially welcomed by President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu Hassan at Dar Es Salaam State House. This is the first visit from an Indonesian president to Tanzania in the last 30 years. The last visit was made by former President Soeharto in 1991.

In the welcoming ceremony, national anthems from both countries were played and followed by the blast of 21-gun salute. After that, President Jokowi was allowed by President Samia to conduct a rank inspection.

After the ceremony, the two presidents introduced their respective delegations and headed to Kikwete Hall Building, Dar Es Salaam State House to sign a guest book. Along the road, President Jokowi and President Samia were entertained by Tanzanian traditional dance.

On that occasion, President Jokowi and President Samia also conducted a face-to-face meeting or téte-a-téte and they joined their respective delegations in a bilateral meeting.

After the meeting, both presidents witnessed the signing and exchange of memorandum of understanding between the two countries. They then deliver a joint press statement. The state welcoming ceremony is concluded with a state luncheon.

Also accompanying President Jokowi were, among others, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Indonesian Ambassador to Tanzania Tri Yogo Jatmiko (BPMI of PRESIDENTIAL SECRETARIAT/UN) (SS/RAS)
