State-owned electricity company PT PLN has ensured a consistent electricity supply for the 43rd ASEAN Summit held in Jakarta from September 5-7, 2023.

“The ASEAN Summit will be held next week. This is our responsibility to maintain the security and stability of the summit’s electricity. With that being said, we are committed to ensuring the readiness of all our personnel to contribute to the success of this summit,” President Director of PT PLN Darmawan Prasodjo said, in Jakarta, Thursday (08/31).

According to the PLN President Director, the experiences of the PLN team in various significant events have enhanced their capabilities in effectively handling the upcoming summit.

The major events include the G20 Summit in Bali, Christmas and New Year Celebrations, Eid-al Fitr, and the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.

“It would usually take months of preparation. However, we can do the summit preparation for less than a month with the experience we have. Starting from August 25 to September 7, 2023, we are already implementing a period of electricity standby by ensuring the electric generator, as well as transmission and distribution systems,” he said.

Darmawan went on to say that the generators supplying the Jakarta system currently have more than 15 operational days, while the 13 substations which are the backbone of the transmission network are also in prime position without any interruption.

“PLN also implements an anti-blackout protocol and a responsive load management system by automatically changing one system to another, making the entire network system secure,” he said.

He also pointed out that PT PLN will equip four layers of supply schemes for six main venues and two airports, as well as an additional two layers for 19 hotels accommodating ASEAN Summit delegates.

In this regard, PLN is also preparing supporting equipment in the form of 11 mobile substation units with a total capacity of 7,940 kVA and 9 uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with a total capacity of 2,980 kVA, as well as building the ASEAN Summit Electricity Control Center as an electricity command center.

“We have deployed a team of 955 personnel fully prepared to ensure electricity security, promptly address customer service needs, and maintain 24-hour operation of electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU),” he added.

In addition to the electricity system, Darmawan revealed that PT PLN is also preparing a complete electric vehicle charging infrastructure, including 79 EV charging with 74 public SPKLUs and five public electric charging stations (SPLU). This infrastructure was designed to cater to the demands of the 560 electric cars and 240 electric motorbikes used during the 43rd ASEAN Summit.

On that occasion, Darmawan said Dozens of PLN elite personnel would be also on alert to secure the supply of electricity for the summit, while officers with special abilities would be 24 hours on standby during the event.

Darmawan also underlined that PT PLN will always provide optimal operation performance to support all international events in the country and stand prepared to be at the forefront in ensuring the success of each occasion, upholding Indonesia’s reputation on the global stage.

“The ASEAN Summit will serve as Indonesia’s global representation. PT PLN stands ready to go all out to make this international event a success by providing uninterrupted electricity services,” he remarked. (Communication & Media Team 43rd ASEAN/UN Summit) (RIF/LW)
