Indonesia to Strengthen Economic Cooperation with Ten Friendly Countries

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (12/08) received Letters of Credence from ten new Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Friendly Countries to the Republic of Indonesia, including Denmark, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Rwanda, Pakistan, Chile, Laos, Canada, Jordan, and Angola.

After the inauguration ceremony held at the Merdeka Palace Jakarta, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said that Indonesia would strengthen economic cooperation with the ten countries under the new ambassadors’ term of office.

She also said that trade sector between Indonesia and the ten countries had been showing a positive trend, gradually over years.

Indonesia, she added, also reported a trade surplus with 6 out of 10 countries in which the highest trade volume is between Indonesia and Pakistan. Meanwhile, among the ten countries, Jordan has invested the most in Indonesia.

“Out of the ten countries, Pakistan has the highest trade volume of around US$4.5 billion last year. In terms of investment in Indonesia, Jordan tops the list with US$500 million last year,” she added.

According to the Minister, investment agreement between Indonesia and Kazakhstan is currently on progress, adding that Indonesia’s investment to Cambodia, Jordan, and Angola has also increased.

In addition to economic cooperation, she added, there were also discussions on cooperation in other sectors such as in industrial sector, energy transition, and protection for Indonesian citizens.

“We’re working on cooperation in strategic industry with Pakistan and Cambodia. We’re also developing cooperation for energy transition with Denmark,” she said, adding that Indonesia also has cooperation to tackle online scams with Laos and Cambodia. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RAS/EP)
