President Jokowi Checks Waste Treatment Process in Cilacap

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (01/02) visited Cilacap Integrated Waste Treatment Site (IWTS) that produces refuse-derived fuel (RDF) to check the treatment process of waste into fuel products, starting from chopping to sieving the waste.

The IWTS is located in Cilacap regency, Central Java province.

Head of the Cilacap Regency Environmental Service Sri Murniyati reported that the waste treated at the IWTS comes from 14 sub-districts in the regency.

“Cilacap has 24 sub-districts, while the waste treated at the IWTS comes from 14 sub-districts around the IWTS,” she said, adding that the machine which processes the RDF at the IWTS has a waste processing capacity of up to 200 tons.

“However, currently it has not been maximized because only 150 tons of waste is processed per day,” she said, adding that the 150 tons of waste processed at the site can produce up to 60 tons of fuel or coal substitute product per day that is used as fuel for burning furnaces for cement factories.

“So, 60 tons of RDF product can be produced per day,” added Sri.

Sri further said that the construction of Cilacap IWTS was carried out from 2017 to 2018 with the funding for building the TPST reached up to Rp84 billion.

“The funding comes from Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing’s budget amounting to Rp27 billion for building infrastructure, Danida’s (Danish International Development Agency’s) amounting to Rp44 billion fund channeled through Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Central Java Provincial Government’s amounting to  Rp10 billion, and the Cilacap Regency Government amounting to  Rp3 billion for land acquisition,” she remarked.
