President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo expressed appreciation for the cooperation between Ministry of Transportation and the regional government in Pakupatan Terminal (type A) construction.

“I really appreciate the cooperation between Ministry of Transportation and the regional government, the provincial government and the city government in Pakupatan Terminal construction,” President Jokowi said when inaugurating the bus terminal located in Serang city, Banten province, Monday (01/08).

President Jokowi also expressed hope that the bus terminal, which showcases Banten’s batik motive called Pawaranggen, can reflect a better image of the terminal, not an image of an unsafe place with many thugs.

“[Bus] terminal is a comfortable place with good services, and also encourages small and medium enterprises to sell their products at the terminals we have,” he mentioned.

On the occasion, the President called on the people to use mass transportation that can reduce congestion. He stated that the Government continues to develop integrated mass transportations, such as mass rapid transit (MRT), light rail transit (LRT), up to fast train in Jakarta which is integrated with satellite cities.

“All cities must start to think about it, using mass transportation, using public transportation,” he added.

The Pakupatan Terminal that can accommodate up to 400 buses every day is also expected to induce the people to use mass transportation.

“Later, if this very beautiful and very modern terminal accommodates more buses and passengers, it shows that people’s mobility to use public transportation, mass transportation will be higher. That is what we hope for,” he remarked. (TGH/UN)(AW/MMB)
