President Jokowi Welcomed with State Ceremony in Hanoi

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was welcomed with a state ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam, on Friday (12/01). Upon arrival at the palace courtyard, President Jokowi was greeted directly by Vietnamese President Võ Văn Thưởng.

Several children carrying small flags of both countries were also seen welcoming President Jokowi. He was also presented with a bouquet by a Vietnamese child.

Following this, President Jokowi participated in the state welcome ceremony, which began with the national anthems of both countries and the firing of cannons 21 times. Subsequently, the two leaders inspected the honor guards.

The two leaders then introduced the delegations from their respective countries. The Indonesian delegation present included Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Presidential Advisory Board’s Member Gandi Sulistiyanto, and Indonesia’s Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi.

From Vietnam, those present included Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Presidential Palace Chief Le Khanh Hai, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan, Minister of Communication and Information Nguyen Manh Hung, Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman Tran Sy Thanh, and Vietnam’s Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong.

Afterward, the two leaders took a photo together and held a bilateral meeting. Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in several areas, including information technology, communication, and fisheries, marked by the exchange of memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
