Dialogue in Batam, President Jokowi Respond Positively the Shipyard Entrepreneurs Complaint

President Jokowi accompanied by First Lady Iriana reviewing the shipyard of PT Anggrek Hitam Ship, in Batam, Riau Islands, Sunday (21/6)

In a series of visits to Batam, Riau Islands, Sunday (21/6), President of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) accompanied by First Lady Iriana review the workshop and shipyard PT Anggrek Black Ship Repair, located at Jalan Raya Pelabuhan Kabil, District Nongsa. The company is a subsidiary of Holotan Pte Ltd of Singapore.

Anggrek Hitam Shipyard that stands on 10 hectares, has a specification to create floating cranes, accommodation barges, work barges, tug boats, self-propelled barges and supply vessels. Currently, PT Anggrek Hitam is currently working on vessel construction that  owned by PT Pertamina (Persero) with a capacity of 17,500 LTDW.

 Obliged Pay by Rupiah

On that occasion, President Jokowi also dialogue with shipyard entrepreneurs in Batam. They deliver a variety of complaints, mainly related to Bank Indonesia Regulation concerning the payment in rupiah, which began on July 1, 2015, the habits of SOEs in buying pipeline abroad, service license, and the authority of the Board of Industrial Area.

President Jokowi responds positively the complaints from entrepreneurs’ who claimed to declining productivity. “I asked for the list, how the ability of our shipbuilding industry. What kind of ship,” he said.

President admitted amazed by the ability of the national shipbuilding industry, which amounted to 250 companies, and especially in Batam there are 106 companies.

“Now I just understand that the shipbuilding industry of Indonesia are able to build their own. Almost all types of ships we can build, whether cargo ships, passenger ships, tankers, up to roro ships, “said Jokowi.

Accompanying President Jokowi on the occasion among others Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Puan Maharani, Coordinating Minister for Economy Sofyan Djalil, Minister of Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Minister of Industry Saleh Husin, Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Franky Sibarani, and Governor Islands Riau Muhammad Sani.
