CSOs Representatives Ask Government to Immediately Create SDGs Action Plan
President Joko Widodo accompanied by Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki received CSOs representatives, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (17/12)
Representatives from several Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) met President Joko Widodo, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (17/12), to deliver important and urgent issues which the Government must pay attention to, so that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be immediately carried out.
Sugeng Subagio from Infid (International NGO Forum on Indonesia Development) explained that there are three important issues that were conveyed to the President. First, there should be a legal basis for SDGs implementation, as soon as possible. Second, an organizing committe must be established, which will be comprising of Ministries/ Government Institutions and respresentatives from civil society. Last, an action plan must be created, as the manifestation of SDGs priority for 5 and 15 years.
In September next year, each country that has ratified SDGs will be asked by a forum in New York, by the UN, to submit a report. The report should explain the preparation and implementation, Sugeng said to the journalists after meeting the President.
Responding to this matter, according to Sugeng, President Joko Widodo appreciated a number of inputs from CSOs representatives. The President was very happy with our inputs, Sugeng said.
Several CSOs representatives who attended the meeting were Albert Nego Tarigan from WALHI (Indonesian Forum for the Environment), Dian Kartikasari from Indonesian Womens Coalition, Wahyu Susilo from Migrant Care, Mohammad Ilham Saenong from Transparency International Indonesia, Hesti Murti from Alliance of Independent Journalists, and Ah. Maftuhan from Perkumpulan Prakarsa.
Meanwhile, on that occasion, the President was accompanied by Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki.(MMB/YM/Naster)
