President Jokowi Visit Sorong Newly-Built Airport

During a working visit to Sorong, West Papua Province, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Widodo visited the newly-built Domine Eduard Osok Airport, whose construction was completed on 31 December 2015.

?On that occasion, the President, accompanied by Minister of Transportation Ignasius Jonan and West Papua Governor Abraham Octavianus Atururi, inspected around the airport, which can accommodate 2.4 million passengers per year and currently serves 700,000 passengers.

“I’ve seen the airport and it’s 99 percent completed” the President said on Thursday (31/12).

In the meantime, parts of the airport that have not been finished are the installation of jet bridges and parking lots in front of the airport building.

“(The construction of the airport) has used a total of Rp. 239 billion and Rp. 170 billion is taken from the 2015 State Budget,” the President said.?

President Jokowi also praised the construction of the airport, which is of high quality and provides good facilities for passengers.

“Until the next 10-15 years, the airport can still serve passengers,” the President said, adding that he hopes in February 2016, the airport could be inaugurated and operated.

After visiting the airport, President Jokowi visited Mandira Airport in Waigeo Selatan District, Raja Ampat Regency on board CN-295 plane owned by the Indonesian Air Force.?
