BMKG: High Intensity Rainfall Expected by End of January

The unstable condition in the Indonesian atmosphere has caused mass of humid air easily rise to the atmosphere and cyclonic circulation around the Indian Ocean south of Lampung, causing the formation of convergence patterns and wind twist in western Indonesia, based on the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) press release.

“These two factors increase the growth of rain clouds in western Indonesia,” the BMKG’s Deputy for Meteorology Mulyono R. Prabowo said in a press release on Friday (24/1).

The BMKG also forecasts that in the coming weeks, heavy intensity rainfalls with thunder are expected to occur in the following regions:

24-26 January 2020:
– North Sumatra
– West Sumatra
– Bengkulu
– Jambi
– South Sumatra
– Bangka Belitung Island
– Lampung
– Banten
– Jakarta
– West Java
– Central Java
– Yogyakarta
– East Java
– West Kalimantan
– Central Kalimantan
– South Kalimantan
– West Sulawesi
– Central Sulawesi
– South Sulawesi
– Papua

27-29 January 2020 :
– West Sumatra
– Jambi
– Bengkulu
– South Sumatera
– Lampung
– Banten
– West Java
– Central Java
– East Java
– North Kalimantan
– East Kalimantan
– West Sulawesi
– South Sulawesi
– Papua

According to the release, some regions are expected to experience floods due to high-intensity rainfall (24-25 January 2020):

– Jakarta (Alert Level)
– West Java (Alert Level)
– Central Java (Alert Level)
– Central Sulawesi (Alert Level)
– West Sulawesi (Alert Level)

Mulyono also called on the public to remain vigilant and cautious of the impacts of rainfall, such as floods, landslides, flash floods, puddles, strong winds, fallen trees, and slippery roads.
