Cabinet Secretary: Essence of Youth Pledge Day Remains Intact Despite Pandemic
The essence of the 92nd anniversary of Youth Pledge Day remains intact despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, according to Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
“Although this year’s Youth Pledge Day is celebrated amid the pandemic, we can still capture the true essence of the Youth Pledge Day, namely to acknowledge one motherland Indonesia, one nation the Indonesian nation and one language that unites us Indonesian,” Pramono said, Wednesday (28/10).
In interpreting the meaning of Youth Pledge, Pramono also invited the youth to remain united in protect themselves, their families and their communities from the COVID-19 pandemic in their own respective ways.
One of the ways is working out, he said.
“I ride my bike around 25 kilometers almost every day. By cycling after performing Fajr prayer, I believe I can protect myself and my office from COVID-19,” he said.
Pramono went on to say that staying fit is as important as maintaining mental health, adding that a healthy body and mind will lead to a healthy performance and competition.
On that occasion, the Cabinet Secretary also talked about hoaxes and disinformation. He expressed belief the youth can distinguish between real and fake news, adding that by overcoming hardship, Indonesia will become stronger.
“Indonesia has a long history of diversity. The diversity unites us and makes Indonesia a strong nation. Diversity is an ordinary thing, but to be united (in diversity) is extraordinary. Happy 92nd Youth Pledge Day,” he stated. (FID/UN)
