1JulibA number of domestic flights were successfully transferred from Husein Sastranegara international airport in Bandung, West Java to the newly opened West Java international airport in Kertajati, Majalengka Regency as of Sunday (30/6).

The new airport is located about 68 kilometers away from the provincial capital of Bandung.

“Allow me to extend my appreciation to state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II, airlines, West Java Provincial Government, West Java Transportation Agency, transportation enterprises, and other related stakeholders for their hard work so that the routes can be successfully transferred to Kertajati Airport on Sunday (30/6) without any significant constraints,” Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said when inspecting the transfer of flight routes in Kertajati Airport, Sunday (30/6).

For the record, flights bound for destinations outside Java island, particularly those using jet planes, were transferred from Husein Sastranegara airport to West Java international airport in Kertajati, Majalengka Regency as of Monday (1/7).

Regarding mass transportation modes to and from the airport, state-owned public transportation operator PT Damri buses will be available to connect Kertajati Airport and several cities.

The passengers using Kertajati airport can ride the buses free of charge for one month. Besides Damri buses, passengers can also use buses, online taxis, or their private vehicles.

“Information on transportation from the airport should be disseminated to the passengers to avoid confusion,” the Minister added.

Budi expected that the transfer can bring more people to Kertajati airport and in turn will help boost regional economy in West Java, particularly in Kertajati, Majalengka, Cirebon, Patimban, and Kertapati. “We believe Kertajati airport can develop rapidly and boost economy in West Java,” he said.

Road infrastructures and mass transportation facilities from and to Kertajati airport will be developed immediately. In addition, other supporting facilities around the airport such as hotels, food courts, and souvenirs centers will also be developed.

“I hope West Java Regional Government and related parties including hoteliers and owners of travel and tour agencies can continue promoting Kertajati airport to the public, for example, by providing discount on hotel room for passengers using the airport,” the Minister stated.

The airport is also set to be one of the airports for hajj and umrah in order to maximize its operation.

“The Government builds infrastructure as a long-term investment. All developed infrastructures will certainly benefit the people in the future,” the Minister said. (Transportation Ministry PR/ES)
