Gov’t Declares End of COVID-19 Pandemic
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (06/21) at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, officially revoked the national emergency status of COVID-19 pandemic
“After more than three years, we have been together in the fight against COVID-19. Today, the Government has decided to lift the pandemic status as we are entering an endemic period,” the President said, adding that the decision was based on the country’s total daily COVID-19 cases which is close to zero.
The decision was also in line with the revocation on the public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) status for COVID-19 conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The national serology survey shows that around 99 percent of Indonesians have antibodies against the coronavirus,” he said.
Nevertheless, the Head of State reminded the public to stay vigilant and to constantly live a healthy and clean lifestyle.
The President also expressed hope that the decision can further boost the country’s economy.
“With this decision, the Government hopes the national economy will improve the quality of people’s socio-economic life,” the President remarked. (TGH/UN) (RIF/EP)
