The Government will comply with the Constitutional Court’s decision on Law Number 11 of 2020 on Job Creation, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has stated.

“The Government will comply with the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) and will implement Law Number 11 of 2020 on Job Creation in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court,” the Coordinating Minister said in a press conference, accompanied by Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H. Laoly, on Thursday (11/25).

For the record, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on November 2, 2020 signed the Job Creation Bill into Law. The Law aims to ensure protection for all Indonesian people, including protection to get a job and a decent living. After the issuance of the Job Creation Law, there have been several judicial reviews on the Law submitted to the Constitutional Court.

“The Constitutional Court’s decision has stated that the Job Creation Law is still constitutional and must be amended during the grace period set by the Constitutional Court, namely in two years after the Constitutional Court’s decision,” he said.

The Constitutional Court’s decision also states that the Government should not issue new strategic regulations until the Job Creation Law is amended. The laws and regulations that have been enacted to implement the Law also remain in force.

“The Government will immediately follow up the Constitutional Court’s decision by drafting amendments to the law and comply with directives of the Constitutional Court stipulated in the Constitutional Court’s decision,” the Coordinating Minister remarked. (TGH/UN) (RI/MMB)
