Date 11 Maret 2019
Indonesia is ready to host the 2021 MotoGP race, President Joko Jokowi Widodo has said.
The event will be held at Mandalika Special Economic Zone in the resort island of Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara province.
We are ready to host the 2021 MotoGP race, President Jokowi told reporters after meeting with Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Group – the exclusive commercial and TV rights holder for the prestigious MotoGP motorcycling championship – at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Monday (11/3).
The President went on to say that Ezpeletas visit aimed to ascertain Indonesias readiness both in the provision and the management of facilities and infrastructure following the cooperation between the Indonesian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and Dorna Group for the hosting of the event.
The President expressed optimism that the hosting of the race will be another success for Indonesia after the country successfully hosted the 2018 Asian Games and the Asian Para Games. Therefore, President Jokowi called on the people to be optimistic and give their full support for this sporting event.
President Jokowi also said that Ezpeleta also praised the location of the event, which is a street circuit in Mandalika. The beach is beautiful and the circuit is close to the beach, meaning we will get two benefits. Our tourism will also get promoted and Mandalika will gain benefits because of the investment, said the President.
The Government, President Jokowi added, is also committed to improving facilities and infrastructure in twelve tourism strategic areas (KSPN) known as the New Bali, including Mandalika.
For the record, Indonesia has held two consecutive MotoGP stints at the Sentul International Circuit in Bogor, West Java, in 1996 and 1997. (EN/AGG/ES)
