Indonesia on Thursday (15/07) received 1.5 million doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

“We have received 1,500,100 vaccine doses in the second batch of Moderna vaccine arrival. The vaccine comes from the United States through the multilateral COVAX Facility,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi said in a virtual press conference on the vaccine arrival.

Retno said that tonight Indonesia will also receive the second batch of ready-to-use AstraZeneca vaccine of 1,162,840 doses provided by the Japanese Government through dose-sharing scheme.

“The number of vaccines from the United States and Japan is in line with the commitments made by the United States Government through the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, as well as my communication with Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi, both through phone calls or during a meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Ministerial Conference in Italy on 29 June,” she said.

The Minister also expressed her appreciation for the support from the two friendly countries.

“On behalf of the Government of Indonesia, I would like to once again express my gratitude and appreciation to the Governments of the United States and Japan for sharing vaccine doses through bilateral and multilateral cooperation,” Retno said.

With the arrival, she added, Indonesia has received 4,500,160 doses of Moderna vaccine supported by the US Government through COVAX Facility. In the meantime, Indonesia has received 2,161,240 doses of vaccine through bilateral dose-sharing from Japan. Overall, as of 15 July 2021, Indonesia has received 140,274,480 doses of vaccine, with 115,500,280 in the form of raw materials and 24,774,200 in the form of ready-to-use vaccine.

Retno said that the Government will continue to work hard to secure the vaccine supply for national vaccination in order to achieve herd immunity.

“The Government, including Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises and other relevant agencies will continue to join hands to ensure the vaccine supply for Indonesia through bilateral and multilateral cooperation,” Retno said. (FID/AIT/UN) (RI/LW)
