President Prabowo Subianto Monday (04/13) met with Russian President Vladimir Putin upon his arrival in the Russian capital of Moscow at noon local time.

The meeting, held at the Kremlin Palace, was part of efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries amid evolving global dynamics.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the meeting between the two leaders lasted five hours, beginning with a two-hour bilateral session followed by a three-hour one-on-one discussion.

Teddy added that the two countries agreed on several key points of strategic cooperation, particularly in the energy and mineral resources sectors, which constitute long-term priorities for both nations.

“Several points were agreed upon, including long-term cooperation in the energy and mineral resources sector, such as oil and gas, energy security and downstreaming,” the Cabinet Secretary stated in a written statement.

In addition to the energy sector, the Cabinet Secretary added that both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to continue and expand cooperation in various other areas considered to have a direct impact on national development.

“The meeting also addressed the continuation of several forms of cooperation in education, technological research, agriculture, and investment across various sectors, with a particular focus on industrial development in Indonesia,” he said.

Furthermore, the Cabinet Secretary also emphasized that Russia holds a highly strategic position in the global arena, making its partnership with Indonesia increasingly relevant and important.

“We know that Russia’s position is highly strategic on the global stage, not only as one of the countries holding veto power at the United Nations, but also as a founding member of BRICS,” he said.

The Cabinet Secretary also noted that Russia is one of the world’s major powers with vast natural resource potential, making it an important partner for Indonesia in supporting long-term development.

“Russia is one of the world’s great powers, possessing some of the largest natural resource reserves globally,” he said, adding that the meeting also reflected the increasingly close bilateral ties between the two leaders over the past year.

“President Prabowo and President Putin last met in Moscow in December and have met five times on various occasions over the past year,” the Cabinet Secretary concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (EP/LW)
